Outdoor gardening for all

Outdoor gardening fun for all!

Outdoor gardening for all! We are pleased to have increased our range of planters to include large and small ones with wheelchair access.

The Planter with Wheelchair Access is available in more than one size. The small size is just perfect for children’s wheelchairs to tuck underneath. The larger one is able to accommodate a full-sized wheelchair.

It is constructed using pressure treated half round timbers which look attractive and are strong and robust.

Here is a selection of plants which we believe are easy for children to grow.

  • Snap Peas. Snap peas are a quick-growing early crop and a tasty treat while gardening.
  • Sunflowers. Guaranteed to cheer up any garden.
  • Radishes. These super fast growers are very easy to grow from seed and can also be grown in a circle or in a fancy shape just for fun!
  • Marigolds. These are  hardy little flowers that can take rough handling and still keep going.
  • Carrots. Carrots like sandy soil so maybe add a little sand to the compost to keep the happy!
  • Potatoes. Easy to plant as they are large and the seeds are not as fiddly to handle as some seeds are.

The benefits of gardening.

Gardening encourages healthy eating as the children are much more likely to want to eat something that they have grown themselves. For older children it introduces scientific concepts such as photosynthesis and plant pollination. Furthermore – growing plants teaches is a great way to teach children of all ages about responsibility. They learn that they have to take care of their seeds each day in order for them to become healthy plants. To help, you can make a checklist that children can use to make sure they care for their plant every day.
